Mastering The Art of Expressive Headshots Workshop
Raleigh, NC
January 17 - 19, 2019

When I branded myself The Expression Coach™, I didn’t do it because it was a catchy title. I did because I actually coach my clients on how to express real emotion whenever they are in front of the camera. I took on the title, Expression Coach™ because I help people tap into their nonverbal communication skills to express a feeling that captivates the viewer. And now, I want to teach you how to become an Expression Coach ™.

My 3-day workshop “Speaking When Silent - Mastering the Art of Expressive Headshots,” is designed to help you take your headshot game to the next level by teaching you how to coach your clients to capture the most expressive headshots ever!

You will learn how to use the equipment you already have to make your most captivating headshots. This workshop is limited to no more than 10 people, so you can receive the specialized one-on-one help you need while in a group setting.

Nonverbal communication accounts for more than 60% of how we receive and transmit information in conversation. We rely on the face, eyes, mouth, posture, gestures, and head & body movement to either send or receive nonverbal cues. Both our conscious and subconscious minds are at work when deciphering the messages that are being delivered by those with whom we communicate. Most of the time we interpret these signals as feelings.

When it comes to headshots, your client’s ability to use nonverbal cues to send the right message and communicate a real feeling to their target audience is imperative. When there is a lack of communication in a headshot, it becomes a missed opportunity to establish trust and convey a compelling message that captures the viewer’s attention.

Until now, unless you followed the blueprint of a handful of master headshot photographers, your ability to get your clients to express a positive feeling was extremely challenging.

But what if I told you that you could help your clients communicate various alluring and appealing unspoken messages in a headshot? What if I said that you could get one person to express many different nonverbal messages that would resonate with very different audiences? What if I told you that you can learn many essential techniques that can help you create your signature style for capturing the most expressive headshots your clients have ever taken?

Well, my friend, it is now possible!

Mastering The Art of Expressive Headshots Workshop
January 17 - 19, 2019

Ever since I learned the value of nonverbal communication, I’ve been on a mission to help people take control of their headshot experience, by teaching them how to utilize their images as marketing tools that send the right message to their target audience. And now, I want to show you how to help your clients do the same.

Here’s what you will learn:

day 1 - The Experience

10:00 am - 6:00 pm

The first day is all about learning how to create a memorable learning experience for your clients from the initial contact straight through to the delivery of final images and beyond. You will learn how to woo your potential clients by standing out as their best choice. I will teach you the secret to outshining your competition by creating the standard that your potential client will judge all other photographers. Additionally, you will learn how to help your clients prepare for their best headshot experience. We will examine my customer relationship management (CRM) system and talk about ways that you can improve yours. During day one you will become more proficient in making the business side of headshots an essential part of the customer experience. I will also spend some time learning about your vision for your headshot business. This portion of day one will help me laser focus the rest of the training to help you serve your client base more effectively.

day 2 - the technique

9:00 am - 6:00 pm

The second day is all about learning how to sharpen your technical skills using your equipment. The exciting part about day two is that all participants will set up their photography equipment and I will coach and train you on how to best use what you have to take brilliant headshots. Each student will receive this one-on-one training in front of the entire class so that everyone will be able to see how other equipment is used and learn different setups that they can also implement. During day two we will share as a community, so feel free to add your voice to the discussion. We will create various challenging shooting conditions that many headshot photographers may face, such as tight spaces, low ceilings, and outside sessions. Bring your most challenging shooting scenarios with you, and we will work together to solve them. By the end of day two, you will be a more technically sound headshot photographer ready to think through any challenging situation.

day 3 - the expression

10:00 am - 6:00 pm

The third and final day is all about Expression Coaching™. We start the day by breaking down the various ways we communicate non verbally. We will spend some time ‘reading’ images, and I will teach you how to interpret the various expressions in headshot photos. You will learn how to effectively guide your clients to see what you see in their expression and help them select the images that convey the very best messaging. You will master the art of the smile and how to get your client to go from a fake smile to one that is authentic and communicates real joy. I will teach you how to reduce your client’s stress during their headshot session by learning what to say to quiet their Dolby surround sound negative head chatter and help them be more present during their headshot session. You will learn techniques on how to get your client to express real feelings whenever they are in front of the camera. I will also share my secret of how to find your client’s ‘soft spot’ that is guaranteed to produce an amazingly expressive headshot every time.
